How To Make
The whole process of making this Coconut Balls Dessert is straightforward! There are no complicated steps, no baking and everything should be done in approximately 10-15 minutes! Also, it is a lot of fun and relaxing, it doesn’t really feel like work!
Condensed milk and coconut are mixed, and in under a minute, this is finished! Taking a hazelnut and covering it with the coconut mixture is all that’s left to do.
It will be sticky, but don’t panic—that’s how it should be. Finally, cover each ball with more coconut. This will prevent the balls from becoming sticky and give them a flawless appearance.
Here is a step-by-step process:
Step 1: If you are making your condensed milk like I did, that is the first thing you have to do. Surprisingly, it took me only 5 minutes to make, even though I expected it to take like half an hour – guess that’s because the much smaller amount of milk and sugar is used.
I also made my own milk – oat milk. Oat milk and unrefined sugar are used, and voila condensed milk is done! As I said, it took me 5 minutes to make the condensed milk, and left it to cool a room temperature for half an hour.
If you are using the store-bought condensed milk, just skip this step!
Step 2: Combine condensed milk and coconut together. Mix it well with a spoon.
Step 3: With hands, take a small amount of the mixture and begin pressing it together to form a firmer texture. Take one hazelnut (or almond) place it in the middle of it and begin rolling it into balls. Do the same for the whole mixture. It would form around 10-15 balls depending on the size you are made them!
Step 4: Coat the coconut balls in the remaining desiccated coconut to give them that flawless look!
That’s it! That’s the whole philosophy! Enjoy!
Tips For Making The Coconut Balls
- Increase the amount of condensed milk if the mixture seems too dry. Put extra coconut in if it’s too thin. Try rolling one or two balls to see if it helps.
- Because of how sticky the mixture is, you could think that it is adhering to your hands rather than the nut. Pressing the mixture with hazelnuts many times before rolling it into a ball is crucial and the key to forming good-shaped balls! To somewhat lessen the stickiness, you may also put some coconut oil on your hands.
Ideas And Alternatives
I believe that dipping the coconut balls in melted chocolate makes them much more delectable, even though you may serve them plain!
Alternatively, the balls might be dipped in melted peanut butter, white chocolate, or dark chocolate.
I’m planning on experimenting with dipping them in the melted dark chocolate full of grated nuts – like hazelnuts! I think it would taste AMAZING! I’ll let you know how it turned out!
How To Store These Coconut Balls?
If wrapped in an airtight container, these two-ingredient coconut balls can be stored in the refrigerator for several days – even after the fifth day, they somehow lose their taste. If you store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, they can last up to 2 months!
However, the best taste is eating them while they’re still freshly made!
Bonus: How To Make Your Own Healthier Vegan Condensed Milk – 5 MINUTES!
To be honest, I was too lazy to go and buy one in the store, and let’s be real, homemade things are always way better and healthier! At least you know what you are putting into it, and is without some highly toxic ingredients.
First of all, don’t panic! This process of making your own condensed milk is much easier than you think, and MUCH QUICKER! I for real thought, it was going to take me 40 minutes of standing and mixing, but it surprisingly took me only 5 minutes! Crazy, right?
The only 2 things you will need to make your own sweetened condensed milk are:
- 2 cups of milk (or non-dairy milk) (I used my homemade oat milk)
- 120 grams unrefined sugar
How To Make Your Vegan Condensed Milk:
In a big pot put milk and sugar together and stir with a spoon until the sugar dissolves.
After 4 minutes approximately, you will notice the mixture starts thickening. Continue stirring for a minute more, and remove from the stove when done.
Leave to cool at room temperature for about half an hour. After that, you can use it for your Coconut Balls!
