  • Ready in less than 20 minutes

Ingredients You Need

  • Bananas – Make sure you use ripe bananas since they contain much more natural sugar, so the sweetness will be enhanced. That may especially help if you’re using a more bitter cocoa/cacao powder.
  • Cacao powder – You can use raw, organic cacao powder, but keep in mind that using organic cacao powder may be bitter in taste, but higher in nutritional content, so it is a healthier option. However, cocoa powder will also work well, and give that seemingly excluded extra sweetness, if you choose to go with the sweetened option. When I’m using organic cacao powder, I tend to add more honey to balance the sweetness.
  • Eggs – You will need 1 larger or 2 smaller-to-medium eggs at room temperature.
  • Salt – To counterbalance the sweetness and enhance the other tastes, add a little salt. Make sure not to use the table salt if possible, but some of higher quality like sea salt.
  • Honey (optional) – Without the need for any additional artificial sweeteners, honey will naturally provide and enhance the sweetness of the brownies if the initial mixture doesn’t provide your desired sweeteness. Preferably use raw, unsweetened honey.
  • Baking powder – This helps the brownies to increase their volume and lighten the texture.
  • Add some berries on top – To make some interesting changes and add some juiciness and freshness to this Banana Chocolate Brownie add some raspberries, blackberries, or fresh strawberries on top of the baked brownie. I didn’t have berries so I used cherries which also fit well!

How To Make

To make these Banana Cocoa Powder Brownies you don’t need any special equipment or complicated steps. You’ll be amazed at how insanely easy, and quick they are to make!

Step 1: Start by preheating the oven to 446F (230°C) or even to 250°C to make it quicker.

Step 2: Whisk the eggs in a medium bowl, and mash 2 ripe bananas with a fork on a plate. Add mashed bananas in a bowl with whisked eggs, and stir it all well until no larger lumps are visible.

Step 3: Add cacao powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 2 – to 3 teaspoons of raw honey. Stir it all together well and evenly until there are no lumps.

Step 4: In a traditional small round baking mold, covered with parchment paper, add the brownie mixture. If you’d like, you may top the brownie mixture with some chopped dark chocolate; just be careful to chop it medium-large to prevent it from becoming mixed in with the brownie batter. Place in the oven to bake for 10-20 minutes or until well baked. Make sure to check if it’s baked after 10 minutes, if not, continue baking.

Pro tip: To estimate if the brownie is baked well enough, use the old trick with a toothpick. Just place a wooden toothpick close to the middle of the brownie, and then check the rest of it. The brownie is done if a toothpick inserted into it comes out clean.

Alternatives, Tips, And Ideas

How To Ripen Bananas Quicker?

The best way to naturally ripen bananas is to leave them in a warm place – in front of a sunny window. Also, you can place them inside a brown paper bag and close it tightly for 1-3 days.

Need Some Additional Taste And Decoration?

These Banana Cocoa Powder Brownies are in my opinion perfect as they already are, but if you prefer adding some extra ingredients for flavor and decoration, the excellent option is some ground or chopped nuts, grated dark chocolate, raisins, or even chopped fruits like blueberries, raspberries or blackberries on top of it. Make sure to add them after the brownie is baked.

Storage Recommendations

Brownies can be stored for up to 3 days, covered at room temperature. The brownies will keep for up to a week in the refrigerator if you want them to stay fresher and chewier.
