Ingredients You Need To Make These Sauteed Cinnamon Apples Fall Treat

This recipe only calls for a handful of ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen and a total of 20 minutes of your time! You’ll need 3 apples (let’s not complicate whether they’re Pink Lady or Honeycrisp, it truly doesn’t matter, use whatever you already have at hand!); 1 tablespoon of preferably organic, unrefined coconut oil; a touch of honey, cinnamon, and a sprinkle of salt! That’s all you need to make this super healthy and nutritious cinnamon apple recipe. Impressive right?

Some of the benefits of the ingredients you need:

  • Apples have a fiber source called pectin that acts as a prebiotic to encourage the development of good bacteria in your stomach. Quercetin is one of the several antioxidants abundant in apple peels. High-pigment (colorful) foods including citrus fruits, berries, green tea, and red wine all contain this vitamin. Also, quercetin may protect your brain from oxidative stress-related damage, according to Healthline.
  • Cinnamon– adds a delicious warming effect to the smoothie and is also packed with various nutritious ingredients, with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. (1)
  • Honey – without the need for additional sugars or artificial sweeteners, honey may naturally sweeten and flavor your cake.  Many health advantages come from raw honey that has been separated from the honeycomb. During processing, some of honey’s beneficial components, like bee pollen and antioxidants, may be lost. Sweeteners may also be added to it. (2)
  • Coconut oil – Coconut oil is an effective substitute for butter in recipes, and it has a better fat ratio. Additionally, it will give your cake a little coconut-y taste.

How To Make

We’ve come to the most important part of this whole story – making our Sauteed Cinnamon Apples in a step-by-step process! They’re insanely easy, and don’t require some extra and complicated steps – those are one of those recipes you can truly enjoy while making with your favorite playlist in the background!

  • Prepare apples (chop or dice them) – Start by washing apples in filtered water before dicing them into small/medium-sized pieces. If you prefer you can peel them first just like I did.
  • In a pan, over medium heat, add plant-based oil.

  • To the pan, add the diced apples – Stir for 2-3 minutes, and add 2 tbsp of water. Continue stirring until the apple pieces start becoming softer.
  • Add ½ tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp lemon juice (squizzed lemon), 2 tsp honey, and salt –  Stir until the additions are evenly distributed to every apple piece.

  • Cook and stir occasionally until the apples are soft to your preference (but not mushy) – the apples will start getting that golden-lightly brownish look. Cook the apples for 5 more minutes if you want them softer.
  • Once the apples soften, remove the lid and serve immediately, or chill and keep in a tightly closed container for 2-5 days in the fridge.

Tips, Variations, And Ideas

  • Use maple syrup – My recipes rarely call for maple syrup, since I’m a big advocate of raw honey, but substituting it for maple syrup would also work pretty well. Also, using some other type of sugar also works, but those are not-so-healthy options, and I prefer to stay away from it as much as I can, so I recommend the same to you.
  • Peel off the apples – In case you prefer peeled apples or planning to make this recipe kid-friendly, peeling off apple’s skin first is a good option.
  • Use butter instead of coconut oil – In case you don’t have coconut oil by hand, substituting it for butter may also work well. Butter has a unique flavor and creamy texture due to the presence of milk proteins and water while being classified as fat. Coconut oil, on the other hand, is an entirely plant-based oil. (3)
  • Add some ground nuts of choice – adding some ground almonds, or walnuts as your sauteed cinnamon apple toppings sounds like the ideal idea to add some nutty flavor and strengthen the whole flavor. Use whatever type of nuts you have at hand, experimenting and sticking to your preferences is always the go-to option!
