Ingredients You Need And Some Of Their Benefits
This extremely fruity and nutritious frozen Greek yogurt clusters recipe is one of the simplest ones you can make and simultaneously get dozens of nutritional benefits, all in one place!
It is the ideal option In case you’re looking for some mouth-watering and delectable, not-so-basic way to include more fruits in your diet, but eating them alone seems too monotony, you’ll absolutely be obsessed with this fruity frozen chocolaty clusters!
Here are some health benefits of the main ingredients you need:
- Greek yogurt – Ideally use plain Greek yogurt to form the base of your fruity yogurt clusters.
- Greek yogurt adds a creamy, thick, sweeter texture that can enhance the flavor of the yogurt clusters, and contains a lot of nutrients such as calcium protein, probiotics, and vitamin B-12. It has many benefits such as boosting metabolism and improving gut health. Probiotics that are present in Greek yogurt act as good bacteria that may help to reestablish a bacterial balance in the gut.
- Bananas – Bananas provide important nutrients that may improve blood sugar levels, gut health, and mood. Bananas are respectable sources of vitamin C, and contain fiber and many beneficial nutrients, including Potassium, vitamin B6, and many more. They also make you feel fuller! (1)
- Strawberries – use fresh strawberries if possible, and finely chop them.
- Strawberries are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, and also an excellent source of magnesium, and potassium. They give that juicy, sweet flavor to the yogurt bark and take us back to the hot summer days, at least just in taste. They’re one of the best combinations with bananas! (2)
- Honey – since this recipe doesn’t use any additional artificial toxic sweeteners, adding 2 or more teaspoons of raw, organic honey into your yogurt bark will naturally sweeten this dessert without you even noticing the difference!
- Dark chocolate – using organic dark chocolate instead of the milk one is a much healthier option, even though regular milk chocolate will also work if you want the sweeter version. The majority of dark chocolate contains flavanols, which are plant compounds. Antioxidants called flavanols have been connected to a decreased risk of heart disease. Theoretically, dark chocolate has more flavanol, which has more health benefits. (3)
Why You’ll Love This Recipe?
- Super nutritious – It is full of fruits abundant in immune-boosting vitamins, minerals, and other significant nutrients, and an interesting way of including more fruits in your diet in a not-so-basic way!
- Ideal healthy ice cream substitute – This recipe is the ideal healthier summer treat when you need a bigger dose of something refreshing. It can be also eaten through the year if you want, but just be careful since it is frozen.
- Prepared in 10-15 minutes – If you’re craving something fruity, fresh, and naturally sweetened but are too busy or overwhelmed with work, this recipe for fruity yogurt clusters is an excellent option because it can be made in about 15 minutes, and then frozen for 3–4 hours.
- Brilliant way to incorporate more fruits into your diet – If you often have no idea how to make your plate a lot more appealing, than just eating plain monotonous fruits, this frozen yogurt bark will surely make it on your list of favorite healthy desserts or snacks!
- Only 6 simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen! – This mouth-watering frozen yogurt fruity clusters recipe only calls for a handful of ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen! You’ll only need Greek yogurt, a few strawberries, a banana, honey, apples, and melted dark chocolate as an additional topping – you’re also free to add any other fruits you have and combine the ones you prefer more. Also, you can add on top of the melted dark chocolate and ground nuts of your choice such as ground walnuts or almonds for a more nutty flavor!
- You can make a big batch to keep on hand for weeks!
How To Make
- Finely chop strawberries, bananas, and apples (optional). Add them to a medium bowl with the yogurt and honey. Gently stir to combine.
- Freeze – spoon out portions of the yogurt mixture onto the baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Put it in the freezer for about 2 hours to firmly set.
- Melt the dark chocolate – melt your dark chocolate either using the double boiler or placing it in the microwave-safe bowl until it melts. I love using the double boiler method (indirect heat used to apply to ingredients) – place the water in the lower pan to boil on the stove, and place another pan on top of it with the dark chocolate, which will receive indirect heat from the lower pan.
- Coat frozen clusters with melted dark chocolate – when your yogurt clusters are ready and the dark chocolate is melted, using a teaspoon, pour the dark chocolate on the top of the yogurt clusters with the dark chocolate, and quickly top it with desired ground nuts before the chocolate hardens.
- Place the clusters back in the freezer until the chocolate hardens – once your yogurt clusters are in a desired amount coated in chocolate, place them back in the freezer until the chocolate sets well – for about half – to 1 hour.
Pro-Tip – to simplify the process as this recipe recommends, just pour the dark chocolate on the top of the yogurt clusters. I do not recommend directly dipping the clusters into chocolate since the freezing cluster will cause the chocolate to harden pretty quickly making it extremely difficult not to make a mess out of everything xD
Tips And Variations
There is no right or wrong way to make these frozen fruity yogurt clusters, it is the ideal time for your creativity to shine! However, here are some of the friendly tips, variations, and ideas to take into consideration to make your yogurt clusters even more delectable (if what’s possible Xd).
Finely chop everything – if your strawberries are super large, make sure to chop them to medium size, since you don’t want too small fruits for this (whichever you’re using) – it makes the bark look flat and harder to break.
Set the parchment paper – This will make it easier to remove the clusters from the tray; if you don’t line it, the yogurt will freeze to it and be difficult to remove.
Give the clusters some time to settle – The yogurt clusters need about 2 hours to solidify completely in the freezer. To enjoy the next day, prepare it the night before.
Add and experiment with some other fruits – This yogurt cluster recipe is completely versatile when it comes to using different fruits, and you can experiment with whatever you have or prefer more! I like to add some blueberries or raspberries or even dates!
Add melted peanut butter – if you’re obsessed with peanut butter just like I am, you can sprinkle some of it at the top of your frozen yogurt clusters to give it even more nutrition spark. Be sure not to overdo it, since peanut butter is extremely rich in calories and fat!
Can You Eat Them During Colder Months?
I totally understand you! Who can even resist this fruit perfection? If you’re worried about eating the ideal frozen summer ice cream substitution during the fall and winter months since they’re frozen, I have some good news for you!
These fruity yogurt clusters are equally as perfectly frozen as melted (maybe even better, shh don’t tell anyone!), making it the sweet winter treat without worrying about catching a cold!
Simply put them out of the freezer where you stored them wait until they start melting at room temperature, the fruit softens well, and enjoy exactly like that! This version of fruit yogurt clusters may be even tastier and more flavorful since they’re not frozen, so don’t worry about not being able to eat them throughout the whole year! This version works also super well!
