Sugar-Free Banana Cake Easy Recipe

This homemade warm, cozy Chocolate Banana Dates Cake is full of healthy nutrients, and vitamins, with the just right amount of sweetness without a pinch of actual sugar! This is the perfect sweet, but sugar-free dessert idea and one of the easiest holiday recipes you can make in around 30 minutes! This is one of my favorite banana and dates recipes, and it is also, the ideal spring or summer recipe – it fits everywhere!

If you crave something sweeter, but, overly refined-sugar cakes are definitely not an option, and you are determined to prepare only super healthy meals as much as you can or simply don’t have much free time for complicated recipes, you came to the right place, my friend!
Once you taste this cake, I bet it’ll be your go-to healthy alternative! You’ll want to prepare this recipe whenever you have overripe bananas on the counter! To be honest, I purchase extra bananas all the time to ripen and bake this cake!
Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Banana Dates Cake?
- No refined sugar or dairy! – This recipe (like all of my recipes) focuses on and prefers only highly healthy, and natural ingredients as much as I can, without refined sugars and other toxic hazardous artificial additions. You can agree that pure, raw, unfiltered honey is always the best way to go, right? And, also you can use any non-dairy milk. In this case, I used homemade oat milk!
- Only 5 ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen! – This cake doesn’t require some special and hard-to-get 10+ ingredients. You will only need a banana, dates, flour, egg, oat milk, raw honey, dried raisins, and high-quality dark chocolate.
- Super healthy, and highly nutritious – It will be much healthier and more advantageous if you use the preferred and advised non-additionally sweetened ingredients and, whenever possible, opt for the more natural choice! High-quality dark chocolate with a high cocoa content will be quite nutrient-dense since it has a reasonable amount of soluble fiber and is rich in minerals.

Ingredients You Need
- Banana – provide important nutrients that may improve blood pressure control, heart health, and mood. Bananas are respectable sources of vitamin C, and contain fiber and many beneficial nutrients, including Potassium, vitamin B6, and many more.
- Egg
- Dates – I used nine of the small-to-medium sized dates—I honestly don’t remember the name of them—because there are several varieties and sizes of dates. On the other hand, you may easily use three or four if you are using considerably larger dates, such as Medjool ones.
- Flour – For this recipe, I mixed oat flour and whole wheat flour. It’s a good source of protein, fiber, and a variety of vitamins and minerals. You may also use white flour, but I prefer to stick with whole wheat – because it is unrefined, keep in mind that it creates a less fluffy texture than white flour, but it is also a much healthier option. - Honey – without the need for additional sugars or artificial sweeteners, honey may naturally sweeten and flavor your cake.
- Non-dairy milk – You can use any non-dairy milk you prefer. I used the homemade oat flour – the easiest and cheapest option.
- Dried raisins
- High-quality dark chocolate – Using organic dark chocolate instead of the milk one is a much healthier option, even though regular milk chocolate will also work if you want the sweeter version. The majority of dark chocolate contains flavanols, which are plant compounds. Antioxidants called flavanols have been connected to a decreased risk of heart disease. Theoretically, dark chocolate has more flavanol, which has more health benefits. (1)
How To Make:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 190 °C (374 °F).
Step 2: The first step is to peel and mash with a fork one medium banana and peeled+pitted dates.

There are different types of dates and their sizes, and to be honest, I don’t know the name of mine but are small-to-medium size, so I used 9 of them. If, however, you are using much larger ones, like Medjool dates, you can comfortably use 3 or 4 of them.
Step 3: Crack an egg, and add it to the banana dates mixture. Add dairy-free milk, salt, flour, raw honey, baking powder, and dried raisins. Mix it all together with a spoon.
- I combined oat flour and whole-wheat flour. I don’t recommend using only whole wheat flour since the oat flour has a slightly sweet, nutty flavor, while all-purpose flour and whole wheat have a neutral flavor. Whole wheat flour absorbs more liquid than the same amount of white flour, so you will need to pay attention to how the texture of the mixture changes. I didn’t experiment with the other flours than the mix of oat and whole wheat, so I can’t give you a guarantee how it will turn out.

Step 4: Pour the mixture into the suitable baking mold, and on top of it, add medium-diced black chocolate pieces. Add how much you like! I covered the whole mixture with it!

Step 5: Place the baking mold in the oven, and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes.
Ideas, Tips And Variations
- Soak the dates in warm water for a couple of minutes – for a much easier process of peeling off the date’s skin, the recommendation is to soak them in warm water for a couple of minutes first, so that they can soften and become much easier to peel.
- Add or replace another type of dried fruit – you can experiment with the taste, and add some dried cranberries, dried diced apricots, cherries, or blueberries. I used only raisins, but combining different tastes may also work even better!
